It makes an interesting and eerie… Circumstances moved beyond Fiborn Quarry as a site of industry and livelihood. Traces of its history dispersed as the people did, leaving little record at the site other than the quarry and the fading remnants left in the wake of a vanished community. The name Fiborn was coined by combining Fitch and Osborn, the last names of the two original co-owners of the quarry. The DSS&A built a 3.8 mile branch from Fiborn Junction to Fiborn Quarry in 1905 and 1906. Fiborn Quarry was accompanied by a village that had a post office and a company store with the only telephone in town.
